How to Freeze Frame in After Effects

1. Duplicate the layer you want to freeze frame by copy/pasting it. Select the new layer.
2. Put the time indicator at the time you’d like to freeze.
3. Right click -> Time -> Freeze Frame

Your entire new layer is now made of that single frame. This is why you created a new layer— it’s not like time stretch, or time warp, where you slow down/speed up the current layer. Its only effect is to freeze the entire layer to the current frame.
